A Quick Guide to Our Bespoke Curriculum
What do we aim to achieve?
“coherent, sequenced, progressive”
Our ambitious curriculum has been designed specifically for our pupils and we ensure that through this, all of our children develop the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we teach our children about (and prepare them for) the World beyond the classroom.
Our curriculum teams have coherently planned and sequenced our curriculum so that our children cumulatively build sufficient knowledge and skills to prepare them for the next stage of education.
How will we do it?
School’s senior leaders and our curriculum teams ensure that series of lessons in each class contribute well to delivering our curriculum intent. High quality teaching and assessments contribute to a culture and environment that allows pupils to focus on learning. Curriculum teams in school work collaboratively to monitor, evaluate and review the curriculum and check that work given to pupils consistently matches the school’s ambitions and aims of the curriculum.
Teachers set high expectations for all pupils, including: pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, pupils with SEND and pupils with English as an additional language (EAL).
As necessary, teachers respond to pupils’ diverse needs and endeavour to overcome potential barriers to learning through carefully planned adaption, intervention or pre-teaching activities.
What will be our impact?
We will always strive to ensure that the impact of our curriculum means that all of our children are ready for the next stages of their education and they make the best possible progress and achieve highly. It is vital for us to build children’s confidence, self-esteem and aspirations, whilst helping each individual to develop personally and gain skills for life-long learning.
Our Learning Challenges:
Our KS1 and KS2 curriculum is driven by ‘Learning Challenges’, which feature ‘big questions’ that the children can explore, debate and justify in a sequence of cumulative, cross-curricular lessons. However, each Learning Challenge is planned and mapped carefully to ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum and include subject specific learning outcomes which are assessed and used in future learning sequences by teachers.
